Veneers- Indications

Dear Readers,

Today, the popularity of veneers is great. They have many advantages that make them an indispensable choice of treating cosmetic dental problems.

I will try to figure out why the veneers are so preferred.

What are veneers?

They are thin shells of tooth-coloured material that are applied to the frontal surface of the tooth.

What corrections are they used for?

1.Teeth with discolourations

2.Teeth with slight attrition

3.Teeth with abrasion

4.Discoloured teeth  after endodontic treatment

5.Teeth with diastema

6.Teeth that are chipped off or slightly fractured

7.Teeth that are malpositioned in the dental arch

8.Teeth with imperfections in their shape or length

9.Teeth with several fillings

Why lately are veneers a preferred treatment method?

The first and foremost advantage is that little tooth preparation is needed. If we compare the preparation of the tooth for the veneer or crown, the difference is obvious.

In the first case - for the veneer preparation, only the tooth surface and the cutting edge or buccal cusp need to be prepared. In the second case for a crown- all tooth surfaces have to be drilled and of course many tooth substance should be removed to provide sufficient space for the crown.

Secondly, veneers are a quick way to correct cosmetic problems

Third, if done correctly, the veneers do not irritate the gums

Then they give a dazzling look to someone's smile

Are there any risks?

1.Veneers can chip

2.They can wear

3.Veneers may fall

4. Colour change can be observed over time (if made from composite)

If the oral hygiene is poor, all of the above risks may occur.

5. There may be a difference between the faces and adjacent teeth - in their shape or colour, especially if it is one, a few or do not cover symmetrical teeth

6. Sometimes prepared teeth can become sensitive

As you can see, there are risks that can happen if a veneer treatment is chosen. This may scare some people, but you as a patient should know all the risks before the treatment starts. Also risks that may occur in veneers can also occur in natural teeth. The secret is to maintain perfect oral hygiene and to visit your dentist for regular dental check ups.
